Arupa Foundation.6 Family of 3D Turned Forms
The paper revisits a 3D Form exercise introduced at IDC in the 1980s, in the framework of Arupa – the Implicate Order. Student solutions reveal how geometric resemblance, abstraction, human posture, felt expression and symbolic metaphors can generate a recognizable family identity. The paper reflects on naming, variation and aesthetic judgement as means of developing metaphoric imagination in 3D Form learning. In the age of AI, it argues for the continuing relevance of such Foundation tasks in learning to observe, abstract, imagine and judge.
